Soft Lenses
Soft Lenses appeared on the market in the 1970's and wearers found them far more comfortable. They allow a greater supply of oxygen to the eye and are less likely to fall out of the eye as they conform to the eye's contours. There are markets for both extended wear and disposable soft lenses. The disposable soft lens market allows the wearer to throw the lens away at the end of the prescribed wearing time (normally daily) which increases hygiene and reduces the risk of infection.
Hard Lenses
Hard lenses are also known as RGP's (Rigid Gas Permeables). They are able to provide superior vision in certain circumstances depending on your prescription. Hard lenses used to be made of a polymer known as PMMA but have since been replaced by RGP's. Hard lenses do not typically conform to the contours of the eye. |
